Follow the steps

1. 1Focus the terminal windowOpen the terminal and tap inside its surface. Type at the blinking cursor; there is no separate command-send box in this terminal.
2. 2Run a harmless commandEnter pwd and press Return to see the current directory. Check the active location before running commands.

3. 3Use the system editing menuLong-press terminal text to select it, adjust the selection handles and choose Copy. Focus the terminal and long-press for Paste when the system menu offers it.
4. 4Use keyboard shortcuts carefullyWith a hardware keyboard, use Command–C and Command–V for copy/paste when text selection is active. Control–C interrupts the foreground command; it is not the copy shortcut.
5. 5Check the remote alternativeA remote terminal sends commands to the server. Local iPad commands and available packages differ from a desktop or Linux shell.

If it does not work

• Tap the terminal surface to give it keyboard focus. Use a long press for the system selection menu.
• A local iPad shell and a remote server shell do not have identical commands or packages. Check which terminal is active.
